Florida Sen. Rick Scott Joins Colleagues in Calling for Accountability for Spying on Trump

A Florida U.S. senator Wednesday called for accountability after bombshell reports from Special Counsel John Durham that the intelligence community and Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, spied on former President Donald Trump’s campaign, and continued spying on him once he entered the White House.

“For years the media parroted the Democrat narrative about Russian collusion,” Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) said. “And now as we’re learning, week after week, that was a complete lie. “The latest with the Durham report is that the Clinton campaign, the same group that fearmongered this Russian collusion, actually spied on the President of the United States.”

Scott then named some of the prime offenders in the hoax perpetrated against Trump.

“They spied on the President of the United States,” he repeated. “They spied and they lied. We need accountability. We need accountability for the Clinton campaign, we need accountability for [Representatives] Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler, because they were complicit in this. So, the media needs to start doing their job, talk about exactly what’s coming out, and hold these people accountable. On top of that, the attorney general – [Merrick] Garland – he needs to be out there making sure that Durham has all the resources he needs to do a thorough investigation.”

In particular Schiff, a California congressman representing that state’s 23rd congressional district and member of the House Intelligence Committee, repeatedly lied about “evidence” of Trump’s never-proven “collusion” with Russia.

Asked specifically what measures should be taken to hold bad actors accountable, Scott’s office did not return a comment request.

Scott joined his colleague Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) in calling for those bad actors to be held responsible for their lies.

“What President Trump endured – he basically endured an eternal coup during the entire four years of his administration,” Johnson said on Fox News Monday night. “Remember, within two weeks, two of his phone calls with foreign leaders were leaked to the media.”

“And so this has been a massive conspiracy, an internal coup, and the conspirators, the co-conspirators, look what they have dragged our nation through for the last five years,” he said. “This needs to be exposed, the truth needs to be exposed, the American people deserve the truth and these people need to be held accountable.”
